It was amazing feeling to see that everyone was so eager to do something and help. I contacted my Indonesian friends here and we decided to do a charity action to collect some money and send them to the victims of Merapi volcano eruption and Mentawai tsunami. I was feeling so sad about all this and I wanted to help my fellow Indonesians. More than 360,000 people had to be evacuated, creating mass refugee camps in the near area. After 3 weeks of eruptions, 259 people were reported to be dead and more than 500 people injured because of the volcanic activity. Pungent smell of sulfur in the air, everything covered under the grey ash and chaos on the streets. The simple life of those living under the volcano mountain quickly turned into the nightmare.
#Gunung merapi meletus m2010 series
Merapi volcano proved why is among the world’s most active volcanoes and it started its series of eruptions. While Indonesia was still mourning for the victims of the tsunami, another disaster happened to my beautiful country. Many shed tears for them but the worse was just about to come. Hundreds of people died and thousands have been displaced. It happened so quickly, undersea earthquake brought about a big tsunami and it hit many villages in the Mentawai Islands in West Sumatra. The period of 3 weeks in the end of October and beginning of November this year became the tragic part of Indonesian history.
